Midterm Review
There were a number of posts in the forum related to the midterm exam. I've decided to create a separate document for a Midterm Review which responds to the forum question, provides statistics for the exam, and addresses specific questions which may have been problematic.
Note - This document is not yet finished and will be uploaded in the late afternoon on Wednesday.
The Lecture Materials this Week
While CSS provides a great deal of control for formatting text and other elements, it delivers truly impressive capabilities and flexibility when you use it to lay-out web pages.
This week, you will learn how to utilize absolute positioning and floating to create basic columnar web page layouts. We'll start out with the basic two-column absolutely-positioned layout, progressing to the three-column floated layout. When we are finished with the lessons this week, you will have templates that you can use as a starting point to create your own page designs.
The lecture documents presented this week are in tutorial format. The markup and CSS is provided and you will get the most out of this material if you "follow along" by creating "real" documents which demonstrate the concepts instead of simply reading the pages.
Lab - Week 8 - Layout Practice for Final Project
This lab is for practice. It will not be graded.
The Week 8 Lab flows in conjunction with the lecture's "follow along" approach to producing layouts. As you go through the lectures, save each of the documents you create and then use one of them as the foundation for the Lab. Besides choosing a Layout for the Lab assignment, you will finish off the Lab by experimenting with color schemes.
Keep the final project in mind while developing the color scheme for the Lab exercise. This is an opportunity to find out what colors work well together in a web page... and which don't.
Homework 8 - Layout/Design
Homework 8 provides an HTML document that you will style using Layout techniques as well as anything else we've learned so far this quarter.
This is an opportunity to let your creativity shine! There is also a Resource document in the Reading section where you can find more information on Layout techniques, color, free images, and inspiration from real sites styled using nothing but CSS.
The goal for the homework is to design your own attractive and effective web page based on the provided markup. This might potentially evolve into a layout you use in your final project?

Have fun this week, and I will see you on-line.
