COIN 74 - Assignment One
SOURCE: Robert Cormia's Foothill College online text, Fall 2006
Task 1 - Read the Quick Start information
Read all the information about ETUDES, the FORUMS, Copyright, Academic Dishonesty, Grading Criteria. Register to the FORUMS with your name: firstname_lastname such as Mark_Twain. Log onto the forums. Read all the ANNOUNCEMENTS in the FORUMS.
Task 2 - Class Introductions
Please submit a brief intro to the FORUMS>INTRODUCTIONS topic. Include your name, your background as it relates to graphic or web design or computer classes, why you are taking this course, your operating system, speed of internet connection, which browser flavor and versions you prefer as your primary and secondary browser, your monitor's resolution, your current URL if you have one and would like to share it with the class. You may even attach a small file size photo to your introduction.
Task 3 - Permission to display your work
Please go to the FORUMS>INTRODUCTION>1 - permission to display your work and follow the instructions carefully to reply to that forum.
Task 4 - Install DW on your computer
Macromedia provides a free 30-day trial version. After the 30 day trial, you have to purchase it or use the computers in the school lab. You can NOT download a second free 30-day trial version. You should use Dreamweaver 8 in this class; it is possible to use Dreamweaver MX2004 and simply work around most differences.
Task 5 - Install any required plugins (QuickTime and Flash Player)
If you haven't installed QuickTime (and desire the ability to see embedded movies) please go to: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ Likewise, you should also have Flash installed http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/ and http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer to view shockwave files. (Please be very careful installing any software, read the license completely, and avoid installing the Yahoo! toolbar).
Task 6 - Configure your UNIX account
Configure your UNIX server account. Please print out and follow the instructions at the Foothill CTIS HowTo Site:
http://www.foothill.fhda.edu/ctis/howto in order to configure your UNIX accounts. Click on the links: Obtain your UNIX account information AND Upload files to the web server using secure FTP (SFTP). DO NOT set up a Foothill email account. After you have configured your UNIX account, you will be able to FTP (file transfer protocol) to transfer your files from you local computer to the school's server...
Click on the Classroom link in the left navigation column of ETUDES and select Lesson 2-FTP to learn how to use Dreamweaver's Files Panel as your FTP client. If you have any problems with your UNIX server account, email Luis Barreto: barretoluis@fhda.edu - I can not help resolve any issues with your UNIX account so please contact Luis directly. Even though I state this clearly several places, students still come to me with their UNIX problems. Please go to Luis. Thanks. ;)
Task 7 - Let me know that you have done all this!
When you have completed your introduction in the forums (which students see), go back to ETUDES assignments, 1 - Forums submission, and paste that introduction for me to see, as well as archiving that into the course records.
