It's not exactly correct to call this an "emulation", for I seem to have gone about this backwards. On two separate days, I photographed familiar territory, but with the intention to try something new. On day one, I tried different settings on the camera. The first setting, described as "slow" was exactly that! It took forever to focus and "take" the picture, and, being my usual impatient self, all these photos were blurry.
The other experiment I tried that day was to use the black-and-white setting on my digital camera (in the Program, or automatic, mode). This WAS successful, and I was pleased with the photos.
On the second day, I once again used the black-and-white selection. This time, I tried to think about what a "real" photographer would photograph - and HOW would they do it. So - I didn't have any particular photographer in mind, but wanted to try and be more "photographic" about what I naturally do. At first, the result was that nothing looked "interesting". Everything was ordinary. Eventually, though, things caught my eye, and I recorded what struck my fancy. These two contact sheets are the results. These 30 images were my favorites of the 40-45 that I took that day.
Part 2 of this exercise selects 3 of these photos to evaluate.
