The three photos here were selected from a series of photographs that I took on February 6, 2006. My idea was to try to figure out what photographer I might want to emulate! That is - what do I do naturally, and who might be a good exemplar, someone whom I can try to emulate to become better at what I seem to like or want to do? I'm not sure yet what photographer I would like to emulate! But, I think I have a place to begin now. For the rest of the class, I will keep my eye out for images that I think are similar to what I seem to photograph, and then I will try to find out how they do what they do.

On 2/9/06, students from Kate Jordahl's "The History of Photography" class, and her "Intermediate Photography" class met at the SF Museum of Modern Art to look at the photographs displayed there. The one photographer I selected to talk about was Bernice Abbott. So - I'll see what I can learn about her. I also noticed a photograph by Helen Levitt that I liked, so I'll see what I can find out about her too.

I will mention one other photographer that appeals to me: Walker Evans. One of his photographs really speaks to me - "Main Street, Saratoga Springs, New York", made in 1931. I'll do an evaluation of that photograph for another assignment later on (I hope!). In the meanwhile, I'll keep him in mind as I continue to explore my own photography.
