Assignment #7

Before this class, I'm not sure I knew any digital photographers, per se.
So, I ended up doing a Google search, and one of the sites I came across was "Sensitive Light".
The photographer, Graham Jeffery, from Hinckley, England, has photographs that I find truly stunning.

It seems that the name "Sensitive Light" for his web log is very apropos.

His photographs of people are very sensitively done.
His nature photographs are beautiful. His eye for detail is delightful.

And his overall sense of color is fantastic.

He writes that he has had a lifelong interest in photography, but that he's really extended that passion since he retired.
He's not overly into the technical side of the field, but he does supply some info about his equipment and process, as well as his philosophy.
In light of our online discussions, I was not surprised to learn that he shoots in RAW mode. He does preprocessing (exposure and color balancing) with Capture One software. Then, he converts images to 16-bit TIFF format, and further processes and stores them in Photoshop format. Finally, for the web he converts photos to JPEG and for printing or for customers he uses a TIFF format. He says "I keep a copy of the image at each stage so that I can always retrace the editing steps back to the original capture." See: http://sensitivelight.com/about/.

I'll quote a little from that web link. In the section on philosophy, he says:
"I am interested in creating high quality, attractive and interesting pictures, and sometimes I succeed…For me it is only the result that counts. The beauty and drama in a landscape, the personality or mood in a portrait, the detail and industry of the hoverfly; these are the results I strive towards." I think he achieves what he sets out to do, and his web log displays his work well.
