Computer Challenges and Expectations

In order to fully access our online check the time that has been set on your computer and make certain it is correct. Insight has an internal clock that will mark coursework if it is submitted after a deadline.

Understand that taking an online class involves a commitment to not only personally having access to a computer with the proper software and hardware system requirements to succeed in this course, but also a good deal of patience to handle the inevitable computer challenges you will experience.

I have worked to make this course as simple as possible so that you may work easily within Insight.

Please know that technical difficulties and computer access challenges are not an excuse for not completing the coursework. Whether or not you have a computer, are using a friend's computer, a computer at work or visiting a computer lab on campus--it is your responsibility to make certain that you have access to the computer in order to complete the coursework. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of planning ahead. I am left in a very awkward position when the entire class has completed a homework assignment on time but you cannot do so because of attempting to complete the assignment 15 minutes before it is due. It's okay to experience computer problems and if you leave enough time before the due date I will be able to support your success.

If you have a computer difficulty file a Student Help Ticket and email me immediately at apines@ccsf.edu with a detailed description of the technical problem you experienced. Most of the problems students experience are related to not using the browser Firefox. Be sure to put 119 in the SUBJECT LINE of your email so that I know it's about one of my classes. As you can expect, I get a LOT of college-related email in my Inbox and it's not always from students. I don't want your important email to get buried.

If you forget your password you will see a link to, lost password, on the Insight Homepage under where you enter your login and password. You will be locked out of Insight if you try your password too many times. If you do not receive an email asking you to reset your password, file a Student Help Ticket.

Familiarize yourself with Insight early in the semester. Logging on a few hours before course work is due will greatly increase your chances for computer difficulties and decrease any help/sympathy that I may offer.

The first week is designed to give you experience with forum postings, homework assignments, email and taking a quiz so that you can familiarize yourself with the technical aspects of the coursework. Insight provides instructions for using all of these tools and I strongly encourage you to read these instructions and print out a copy to refer to while using the particular tool.
If you cannot log on to Insight check that you have typed in the correct address. Double-check your login and password.

If you still cannot log on go to the Homepage for Insight--this is the page that you go to to login. CCSF has its own server for our course. If our server is inaccessible the entire class will not be able to log on and you will see a message on the Insight Homepage.
