Podcast Title and Concept
I’d like to create a monthly podcast for SF Chapter 65 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees association (NARFE), called “NARFE 65 Podcast”. Many seniors shy away from the social media opportunities we have created. However, clicking a link to listen to a podcast is not nearly so intimidating. Many members become less active in our organization as they age. A monthly podcast would allow them to maintain participation, even when they can no longer attend meetings.
A second opportunity is the wide variety of members, from multiple Federal agencies, who have dedicated their lives to Federal service. Many have had illustrious careers and interesting experiences. With meetings held only once a month, we often lack time to learn about one another. Sharing our stories via podcast interviews would enrich our sense of community.
The format will be short, 5-15 minutes, and the frequency will be enough to keep people interested, but not too much to overwhelm the amateurs creating it. My concept is to create a format and procedures for the podcast, with the hope that others will eventually be the ones to do the actual interviews. This offers a third benefit to our organization – it allows those with under-utilized interests and talents to “make a difference”.
It is a fantastic idea and one that is truly needed in LOTS of organizations. This is a great way to have members feel "included" and that they are learning about each other. I love it!
