Podcast Update

by Martha Raup - Sunday, March 23, 2014, 2:11 PM

I’ve taken several steps towards creating a podcast, but haven’t begun taping or editing yet.

  • Purchased a Zoom H4N voice recorder/audio interface, and have practiced in a few situations. Have yet to download anything to the computer yet.
  • Have decided to use GarageBand for editing, so checked out library books and watched YouTubes on both GB and video editing in general (including Audacity)
  • Borrowed quality headphones to enable quality editing
  • Told a few people of my idea for a podcast, and asked my first interviewee if he’s available.
  • Set up a private site on Podbean, for practice. Will soon set up a professional, public site.
  • Listened to more podcasts, to get a feel for what I want

Some great ideas in here... most of which I'm going to steal for myself.  Never even occured to me to listen to other podcasts to see what they're doing, but it makes perfect sense.  I was just planning on jumping right in there pretty blindly!

It also seems like a lot of people are choosing podbean.  I guess my next task is to browse some of these hosting sites and pick one!

Good luck!

You've got all of the pre-production done, Martha.  One things though, be sure to have your interview questions all set up in advance and it's nice for your interviewee to get them in advance to think through their answers.

It's a big help to check out Podbean in advance and futz with it a bit.  Then, all you'll need to do is put that edited MP3 up there.  We've got one more week of class after this one.  So, what I would do would be to capture enough material in the interview and other sounds in the space (it's a center, right?) to possibly make two episodes.  So, feel free to capture a lot of the sound and you can edit it into 2 episodes.  People love short-and-sweet podcasts for their commute time.
