MedinaTetouan City in Morocco with 320,000 inhabitants (2003 estimate). Tetouan is situated slightly inland from the Mediterranean Sea, only 40 km east of Tangier, in the north of Morocco. The economic base for Tetouan is trading of agricultural products, like grain, citrus fruit, livestock, crafts and vegetables. Industries of Tetouan produce cigarettes, soap, matches, flour, textiles and building materials.
view of TetouanVirtual TouristTetouan does not seem to receive the tourist that Fez and Marrakesh get. It is a shame because its Medina is possibly the most beautiful in Morocco. The Medina is whitewashed much like Greek or Spanish cities and the people are very friendly especially at the tannery where I was able to take photographs without any hassle. There is a great view of the Riff Mountians from the more elevated sections of the town.

World Heritage SiteThe Medina at TétouanTétouan was of particular importance in the Islamic period, from the 8th century onwards, since it served as the main point of contact between Morocco and Andalusia. After the Reconquest, the town was rebuilt by Andalusian refugees who had been expelled by the Spanish. This is well illustrated by its art and architecture, which reveal clear Andalusian influence. Although one of the smallest of the Moroccan medinas, Tétouan is unquestionably the most complete and it has been largely untouched by subsequent outside influences.

ShoppingPlace de l'OussaMorocco has a wide variety of handicrafts, easily available in every town and village. While some of the products are locally produced, most items for sale are made in the larger cities, or even in factories, and exported across the entire country.
NewsGrowing Up in TetouanNo one thought it was strange when Muncif Ben Aboud disappeared from his crowded, unkempt neighborhood in the Moroccan city of Tetouan.
