Week 4 - HW #6 - COIN 72
Web Analytics
Martha's HW #6 Option A Option B Option C
#6 HW on text Bk 3 Ch 1-9 SEO is due by Sat Feb 4. (worth 20 points)
Class, are you enjoying the cartoons at the start of every topic book? You'd think the folks in this week's one would be using mobile digital devices! (But then there was a solar storm during the past couple weeks which sent a magnetic wave that touched parts of Europe and interrupted their electronic communications, so maybe there is some truth in the cartoon...)
In this week's work, COLOR is important -- we are working on visual representations of numerical data and we all 'get it' in different ways.
The 6 chapters on Book 3 Web Analytics have a LOT of detailing and numbers information -- don't get lost, try to read for the general message and getting the 'big picture.'
Browse, pick & choose, and address ONE of these HW assignment options below (each = 400+ words with details, descriptions and examples). Please label which Option and try to apply a real-world example of where you saw this or where you can use this concept):

OPTION A: Visuals & Explanations. The basic question is, what are the differences between reports and analytics? what do they look like?
Our text shows B&W samples in Ch 1 thru 6 -- just thumb through and look. But there are nice COLOR pics of Web Analytics Reports (which look like various Excel spreadsheets) at Occam's Razor by A. Kaushik:

Also, more sample color Web analytics reports may be found at SCL:
http://www.scl.com/marketing-software/marketing-software-whitepapers/sample-web-analytics-reports
Compare these above with the pictures on another of Kaushik's webpages, where the first 3 Web Reports show that they are different from the Web Analysis reports that show things like Cart Abandonment, Site Traffic Top 5 Keywords, Survey of Frequency of Site Use and by Audience Type at:
http://www.kaushik.net/avinash/difference-web-reporting-web-analysis/
And, for a medley of Web analytics reports examples, click IMAGES at top left of Google and type in key words 'Web analytics reports examples' to see an array of different visual representations.
- OR -
(OPTION B): Compare Google Analytics (p. 272 and others) with a couple other Web Analytics offerings in general (refer to Ch 1 and 5). For Reference:
Google Analytics: http://www.google.com/analytics/
Yahoo Analytics: http://web.analytics.yahoo.com/
SAS Web Analytics (large companies):

There are others mentioned on pp. 270-271. (400+ words with descriptions, examples, different features, etc.)
- OR -
(OPTION C): Defs & Descriptions: Write what these terms mean and supply a real-world example outside the book whenever possible, several sentences each, 400+ words, comparing:
- goal funnel data & tracking
- hits, KPIs, and conversion goals
- landing page vs. home page
- loyalty benchmarks vs. repeat customers
- referrer data and why it is important
