Martha's COIN 74b Textbook Tutorials

Here are links to tutorials I've done, following the textbook "Dreamweaver 8: The Missing Manual" by O'Reilly Press.

Tutorial 8 - Layouts: Original File and Completed File. Here's the additiional css file. This exercise was NOT easy! It took me several hours to complete. The main problems were that the .nav div was placed in the correct spot, but it did not display correctly because it was not given the ID name of nav! Once I figured that out (30 min?), it fell into place. The other problem was that I sized the nav div at 425px instead of 455. That meant that it wrapped beneath the main div. Anyway, lesson learned, and mistakes, hopefully, will NOT be repeated!!

Tutorial 6 - Cascading Style Sheets: Original File, and the Completed File. Here's the aditional css file. This exercise went much better. The fact that I'm doing things backwards may have helped! Anyway, it was useful to do.

Tutorial 5 - Rollover Images: Original File, and the Completed File. Looks like I'm working backwards! How typical - I jump in feet first, then realize I don't know how to swim. Well, time for some remedial work. This tutorial was a breeze!

Tutorial 17 - Templates: Original File and Completed File (select Gemini). How easy, relatively speaking, this was. And I learned a thing or two, too! For instance, I didn't know about the Template Properties on the Modify menu; I didn't know you can edit inside OR outside a tag selector; and I've never used optional regions or repeating regions before. I can't wait to put this info to use!!

Tutorial 16 - Snippets and Library Items: Original Snippets (4 forms), Month Menu snippet, and Form with several snippets. Origninal Library Item (a copyright at the bottom of the page) and Library Item inserted in code . These exercises were fairly straight-forward, because I've created many snippets and library items. In the process, I added a few new snippets to my Assets!

Tutorial 10 - Forms: Original Form and Completed Form . Fill it out - try it out! I had some trouble with this one, and I still don't quite understand forms. I have trouble figuring out what's the difference between a label, a name, an id.. And I don't have the mechanics down - what order to do things in. selecting the right action, adding behaviors - well, I guess the whole topic escapes me! I just need to do it more often, I guess. Anyway, I did it.
