Week 1 Assignments - Orientation - BCST 119

Every week I'll summarize what you have to do on the weekly assignment sheet. If you see highlighted text here on the assignment sheet, that means you can click on it to be taken directly to the resource or activity that is on the list (this is called a hyperlink for those of you who didn't know that). If you have any questions about the assignments, be sure to email me directly OR to post the question in the Walled Garden to the entire class . If you have any technical questions about our Insight learning management system or your computer, please post your question to the technical support forum (you'll find the link in Block 0).

Assignment for Week 1
  • Buy the Required Reader
  • Take the one question Course Agreement quiz - it's a simple yes or no and is located just above the Week 1 graphic at the bottom of the Resources section. (It requires 2-minutes or less of your time!)
  • Take the Week 1 Quiz (not for credit). This is for me to find out what you already know about computers
  • Tell us about your computer system, by filling in the form and submitting it.
  • Tell your classmates how you feel about computers, by participating in this week's forum.
This looks like a bit of work, but it really shouldn't take more than an hour to 1.5 hours of your time. It's more about me getting to know you and you and your classmates getting in touch in this online world which can be strange when you don't have actual humans to look at in a classroom.

And I've got one more thought for you: find a couple of days each week that you can dedicate time to focus on this class. Be sure it's at the start of the week like Monday or Tuesday because it's not going to serve you well to log in on Sunday only to find you have a bunch of work that is due that night. So, put together a calendar and pick a time on Monday or Tuesday to see what the assignments are and do the reading and then time later in the week to do the assignments. This focus will assure your success in the course.

Now, let's go have some digital media FUN!
