Martha's COIN 74 Week 4 Exercises
Day Seven - Navigation Bar - Part Two!
This exercise has been driving me batty! First, I couldn't figure out how to create "buttons". I tried Fireworks, and I tried Photoshop. No luck. Then, I searched the FORUMS discussion board to see if anyone else had an answer. There, I found instructions for how to create buttons with Fireworks, but I couldn't follow them. The "Help" section did not do so. I found reference to Cool Text, but had no luck there. Finally, I remembered about Flamingtext.
At Flamingtext, I created 6 buttons. Then, I created a Navigation Bar that worked. However, I reread the instructions and found that I needed to make buttons for the index page (zzz) and the homework assignments page (hw). I went BACK to Flamingtext, but I couldn't find the particular button style I had chosen. So, I made two buttons in a complementary style (solid blue background with red overlay). But when I added them to the webpage, they extended way outside the printable margins! For me, a webpage is poorly designed if it doesn't print well.
So, the next day I returned to the project and tried to move the two extra buttons BELOW the 6 pages buttons. Alas, Dreamweaver only allows ONE navigation bar per page! So, I returned to Flamingtext to make two more smaller buttons. This time, I found the style I had originally selected. I made two more buttons, and added them to this webpage. Alas and alarm, they STILL don't fit within the printable margins. So, I tried to alter the page properties. I tried to set the right hand margin at -5px. Nothing changed. And that's where the matter rests - I will abandon perfection or even satisfaction on this project, and accept that I have demonstrated that I know HOW to create navigation bars, even if I don't know how to do buttons!!
HMM - I wonder if I can just ADD the buttons as images with links? Let me try that here:
It works! So, can I insert the naviagtion bar WITH these two extra buttons?
No, apparently not. And, I don't know how to add the red images that appear "on mouseclick".
Oh well - I ready to move on to the next assignment!
Not so fast now - I have to add the navigation bar to all six pages!
SUCCESS! If I change my print margins to .3 on the left and .2 on the right, the navigation bar fits on the page.
