Europe 2006 - Tour Itinerary

Day 1  (Saturday, May 27) Board your overnight transatlantic flight.
Day 2  (Sunday, May 28) Arrival in London, England. Uniformed Globus hosts are available to help you make the most of your stay.
Day 3  (Monday, May 29) London. Sightseeing with a Local Guide includes all the famous landmarks: the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben beside the River Thames, Westminster Abbey, the Prime Minister's Downing Street, and Buckingham Palace. Highlights are a visit to ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL and the ceremonial pageantry of the Changing of the Guard, if held. Optional excursions are available. (FB)
Day 4  (Tuedsay, May 30) London-Brussels, Belgium-Amsterdam, Holland. Meet your Tour Director and traveling companions and transfer to the railway station to board the EUROSTAR TRAIN to Brussels, Belgium. From here a comfortable drive will bring you to Amsterdam, Holland. Enjoy a CANAL CRUISE with a Local Guide, to see the patrician mansions, gabled façades and humpback bridges, and hear about the history of the 700-year-old capital. Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner at your hotel. (FB,D)
Day 5  (Wednesday, May 31) At Leisure in Amsterdam. Start the day with a drive to Museum Square. Here, at a major DIAMOND CENTER, appreciate how a rough mineral is transformed into a sparkling jewel. Then, with the rest of the day at leisure, there's plenty of time to visit the museum of your choice and later you may wish to join an optional excursion to Volendam. (BB)
Day 6  (Thursday, June 1) Amsterdam-Heidelberg-Rhineland, Germany. A passing glance at the Dutch region best known as the locale of A Bridge Too Far on the way to Germany. Stop in Cologne to visit the awesome twin-spired GOTHIC CATHEDRAL. Then the afternoon's highlight: a romantic RHINE CRUISE past castle-crested cliffs, terraced vineyards, and trim, half-timbered towns. Next stop is Heidelberg, famous for its red-walled castle. Day 7  (Friday, June 2) Rhineland-Lucerne, Switzerland. A scenic day! Morning stop in the lush valleys and pine-clad hills of the BLACK FOREST, renowned for its cuckoo clocks. On the Swiss border take your pictures of the thundering RHINE FALLS, then continue to picture-book Lucerne. (BB,D)
Day 8  (Saturday, June 3) Lucerne-Liechtenstein-Innsbruck, Austria. Admire Thorwaldsen's LION MONUMENT, walk through the Old Town and cross the famous covered CHAPEL BRIDGE to the Jesuit Church. Time to shop for Swiss watches or climb lofty Mount Pilatus. Then leave Switzerland, stop in the principality of Liechtenstein, and continue to Innsbruck in the Austrian Tyrol. Take pictures of the Emperor Maximilian's GOLDEN ROOF. (BB,D)
Day 9  (Sunday, June 4) Innsbruck-Venice, Italy. The spectacular Brenner Pass leads through the barrier of the Tyrolean Alps to Italy. Enter Venice in style by PRIVATE BOAT to meet your Local Guide. Highlights of your walking tour are ST. MARK'S SQUARE and the BYZANTINE BASILICA, the Clock Tower, lavish Doges' Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs. Also watch skilled GLASSBLOWERS fashion their delicate objects. (BB,D)
Day 10  (Monday, June 5) Venice-Rome. A scenic drive across the wooded Etruscan Apennine Mountains and through the vine-and-olive-clad Tuscan hills, home of the popular Chianti wines, brings you to the Eternal City. (BB)
Day 11  (Tuesday, June 6) Rome. Sightseeing with your Local Guide starts with a visit to the VATICAN MUSEUMS and SISTINE CHAPEL, world famous for Michelangelo's ceiling paintings. Continue to monumental ST. PETER'S SQUARE and BASILICA. Cross the Tiber and visit the COLOSSEUM and the ROMAN FORUM, where Roman Legions marched in triumph. Then time for independent activities and exciting optional excursion possibilities. (BB)
Day 12  (Wednesday, June 7) Rome-Tuscany. An easy morning drive back north to Florence. Follow your Local Guide to the magnificent CATHEDRAL, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistry's heavy bronze "Gate of Paradise", and SIGNORIA SQUARE. To top it off, admire Michelangelo's celebrated David in the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS. Later take a moment to check out the enticing shops with Florentine leather goods and gold jewelry. (BB,D)
Day 13  (Thursday, June 8) Tuscany-Pisa-Nice, France. Focus on Pisa this morning for pictures of its amazing Leaning Tower. Then a scenic drive past a string of Italian and French Riviera resorts towards the principality of Monaco. Here leave the highway for the panoramic Moyenne Corniche. Before arriving in Nice take a break in Eze to visit one of the famous PERFUME FACTORIES. An optional outing is available to Monte Carlo. (BB)

Day 14  (Friday, June 9) Nice-Avignon-Lyon. Through the sun-drenched landscapes of the Provence to Avignon, an important spiritual center in the Middle Ages and the residence of several Popes and antipopes. Take your pictures of the Gothic papal palace and the bridge of the popular song before proceeding through the orchards of the Rhône Valley to Lyon, the country's second-largest city. (BB,D)
Day 15  (Saturday, June 10) Lyon-Paris. Follow the valley of the River Saône into Burgundy where road signs read like the wine list of an expensive restaurant on your way to Paris, the traditional climax of a European vacation. This afternoon, sightseeing with a Local Guide includes the most famous sights: the Opéra, Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Elysées. For a bird's-eye view take the elevator to the second floor of the EIFFEL TOWER. (Tours arriving on Saturdays in Paris will have sightseeing on Sunday morning) (BB)
Day 16  (Sunday, June 11) At Leisure in Paris. Another day to enjoy what this extraordinary metropolis has to offer. Explore the world capital of chic and style at your own pace: shop for perfume and fancy fashion accessories, take your pick from many fine museums or stroll through the magnificent parks. Optional excursions are available to the Louvre museum and the lavish baroque Palace of Versailles. (BB)

Day 17  (Monday, June 12) Your homebound flight from Paris arrives the same day. (BB)
